Bruce P. Olsen

IT Solutions Consultant

Bruce Olsen is a senior independent consultant specializing in enterprise application integration strategy and architecture and performs engagements involving technology strategy as well as technical, infrastructure, application, and data architecture. He is also an experienced system administrator and network designer. He has thirty years of business, management, and IT experience. With thirty years of business experience including eight years as an Information Technology and Management Consultant, Bruce’s clients have ranged from small companies and startups to Fortune 500 enterprises in a variety of industry segments including financial services, transportation, utilities, healthcare, telecommunications, and manufacturing. He was a Principal EAI Architect with CommerceQuest, Inc., a leading Business Process Management and EAI software company, a Principal Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Services and the local practice leader for IT Strategy and Enterprise Integration with CIBER, Inc., a national consulting firm. He now leads consulting services for Defining Technology, Inc.

Bruce is an experienced trainer and has developed and taught classes in UNIX fundamentals and the Basics of TCP/IP in a corporate setting. He also developed and taught a course in Client/Server Systems Management in the Continuing Education Department of the University of Washington.

Earlier in his career, Bruce was a senior specialist in distributed systems for Airborne Express where he was in integral part of the expanded deployment of UNIX systems that relieved the pressure for the increasing expansion of the mainframe complex. He supported the global deployment of accounting systems for offshore accounting as well as improvements to the communications infrastructure that directly supported shipping operations. He began his career at Seattle First National Bank (Bank of America) where he gained a broad exposure to most functional areas of retail and commercial banking.

Bruce has spoken to professional groups on the use of middleware architectures for application system integration and has also published articles on expert systems, mortgage banking cost control, and credit scoring strategies. He also maintains a web site as a reference for application integration middleware practitioners.

He received a Master of Arts from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota. He is an IBM Certified Specialist - MQSeries.
